About

Welcome to Vini Bellum—a blog (and soon, a podcast!) that explores the fascinating crossroads of warfare and wine. Here, we dig into battles that were fought in and around wine regions—sometimes even through active vineyards.

Each post begins with an overview of the location we’re focusing on. From there, we dive into the military campaign and the battle itself. Then comes the wine: we explore the terrain, soil, climate, grape varieties, notable wines, and a quick history of winemaking in the area. Finally, we wrap up with a spotlight on a specific weapon that played a role in the battle.

But each post isn’t just “one and done.” Over time, I’ll revisit earlier entries with follow-up posts—how to visit the battlefields and, of course, the local wineries. As I mentioned in a post on my personal site, I built Vini Bellum with a long game in mind. I wanted to create something:

more ambitious—something that could support at least 100 posts over the span of years, not just a short-term burst of activity.

In addition to regular blog entries, I’m working on the podcast. Once I’ve nailed down a sustainable recording and editing rhythm (and have a few episodes in the can), I’ll begin releasing them.

Also—I love talking history and wine. If you’ve got comments, ideas, or just want to talk about a battlefield—or a bottle, reach out through the contact form or email me directly at [email protected].
